Home and Away actress Jacqui Purvis revealed filming a certain part of Felicity Newman’s wedding scene to Tane Parata was ‘one of the hardest things’ she’s ever had to do
Star of the TV show Home and Away Jacqui Purvis spoke candidly about the stress she had during filming Tane Parata’s wedding to Felicity Newman.
Felicity and Tane finally got hitched during Friday’s episode (May 19) of the Channel 5 soap opera in a customary Mori wedding ceremony.
Actress Jacqui acknowledged that she felt New Zealand’s eyes were on her during the occasion as Felicity read her vows in te reo Mori in an effort to make things more memorable for her boyfriend.
The Australian actress told Stuff that it was one of the hardest things she had ever had to do.
“There was a lot of pressure for me personally. Acting-wise I was just like, ‘I’m going to embarrass myself. All these Kiwis are going to think I’ve butchered their lovely language.’ “
She acknowledged, though, that it took some time to master and that she was “just really grateful and lucky” to have had the opportunity.
“I was guided through it by the cultural adviser, who also taught me the language and how to say everything correctly. It took many hours, she said.
We regrettably only had a few takes because we were short on time and it was going to rain.
“We only had two takes, and the first one I messed up, and I was so mad because I made so many mistakes.”
The actress who has played Felicity since 2021, a blonde beauty, stated that last-minute changes to the screenplay made her question whether the wedding would even go place.
“There’s always that thing on this job. You don’t believe it until you’re filming because anything can happen,” Jacqui explained. “They can change the script last-minute. They do and you get thrown a new script to learn at 7am.
“There’s so many things that can change, so even though I knew and I had been told, there was just this little thing in the back of my head that this could still change.”
The soap star admitted her character’s wedding scene will be a moment she will “probably never forget”, adding that it was “so beautiful to be a part of.
