Fans of Neighbours have continued to sign a change.org petition opposing the show’s demise.
At the time of writing, 60,204 people had signed the petition, with a goal of 75,000 signatures.
“Neighbours has been a staple on UK TVs for almost 35 years – and has been watched by generations,” petition founder Edward Skylover stated in response to the show’s impending end. It is currently in jeopardy due to rumours that Channel 5 is unable to reach an agreement with Fremantle Media.
“Neighbours is more than just a TV show; it is a source of comfort and enjoyment for generations of fans who have watched it for decades. It is one of the most popular TV shows in the UK, attracting people from all walks of life to Channel 5’s lineup of channels.” Adele is a fan as well. We beg you, Channel 5, to find a solution to keep Neighbours on the air.”
If things continue as they are, the remaining 14,796 people will not be far behind.
A representative for Channel 5 made the following statement about the soap’s future earlier this month: “After this summer, Channel 5 will no longer broadcast Neighbours. We’d like to congratulate the cast, Fremantle, and the entire production crew for their excellent work on this landmark series, which has been a much-loved part of our schedule for more than a decade.”
