In a new scenario, Sheila Canning’s departure from Neighbours is explained.
After some low-key last scenes aired at the beginning of last week, the regular character has been missing from the serial in recent days.
Roxy Willis (Zima Anderson) had broken into Freya Wozniak’s (Phoebe Roberts) home, and Sheila was last seen reacting to the news.
Since then, the Canning family matriarch has been absent from the scene, but fans learnt that she was rushing to Los Angeles to see her daughter Naomi, whose boyfriend had become ill.
Sheila’s grandson Levi (Richie Morris) informed Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher) that she had arrived in the United States in Friday’s show on Channel 5.
In a subsequent scene, Sheila’s other grandson Kyle (Chris Milligan) received a distressing phone call from her, informing him that she would be staying in the United States for the time being.
Kyle explained to Roxy: “She needed to get to the hospital right away. Naomi’s boyfriend had passed away. The man was the father of three children. Gran claims they don’t have any other relatives, thus Nomes is responsible for them. Gran has gone to assist her because she’s completely out of her depth.”
Roxy responded, “Mama, of course, has. She would go to any length for her family.”
Colette Mann, who portrayed Sheila on the show, recently took to Twitter to answer fans’ questions about if her character’s departure was permanent.
“Looks that way,” she said.
The show’s opening titles will be updated in Monday’s (February 21) episode, with Levi, Roxy, and Kyle starring in a new seaside shot without Sheila.
Zara Selwyn (Freya Van Dyke) appears alongside her mother Amy (Jacinta Stapleton) and Ned Willis in the segment (Ben Hall).
