Mali (Kyle Shilling) is rapidly establishing himself as a regular in the lives of both Xander (Luke Van Os) and Rose (Kirsty Marillier). He’s helping Xander practise his surfing, and Rose arrives in as they’re wrapping up a lesson. She and Mali immediately start flirting as usual, and Mali delays returning to the board shop so he can spend more time with her.
Rose admits she has never taken surfing lessons, and despite her objections, she decides to go surfing later. Rose learns that Xander had a lesson for her in mind when she gets to the beach, though. She enjoys herself with Mali; the only awkward moment is when Mali receives a worrying text.
Rose is dissatisfied that they are only studying methods on the sand as the surf class goes on. She loves to be in the water and is naturally eager and competitive. Mali, on the other hand, points out that Xander is a good student and picked up the skills quickly, which inspires Rose to defeat her brother.
Mali and Rose decide to arrange a BBQ at his house after Rose invites him to dinner. Mali’s phone, however, continues interrupting the evening, and he won’t admit who is sending the texts that are causing it to blow up.
Rose can’t help but feel uneasy after her harrowing encounter with Tex, who was secretly associated with the bikies.
Rose finally makes the decision to confront him about it by asking him to stop messaging so many people. She wants to know if he is seeing anyone else since it would be preferable to him being completely honest. Mali reluctantly shares the truth, and Rose is not at all prepared for it.
