EXCLUSIVE: Home and Away favourite Lynne McGranger reveals why her memoir was “terrifying” to write

While most Australians are familiar with Lynne McGranger’s visage from television, she is much more than her renowned Home and Away counterpart.

The actress talks on how her formative years, which were marked by love, learning, and a desire to please, became a theme that she maintained throughout her adult life and profession in her debut book, Acting Up.

While Lynne wasn’t convinced there was anything about her life worthy writing a book at first, the stories flowed back easier than she expected.

“It’s been difficult to write, and I wasn’t sure I’d remember anything because I had so much fun in the 1970s and 1980s! But the puzzle pieces fell into place, and I was able to find my voice “Lynne tells TV WEEK about it.

“And while some people may not like it, it is my memoirs and memories that I am sharing. They shaped me into the person I am today.”

While the book is full of wit and comedy, Lynne also explores the effects of an eating problem, heartbreak, and sorrow.

“I didn’t want to sugarcoat anything, and while we may have reined in some things, I simply wanted it to be honest. I don’t have any regrets in my life “she explains. “Everyone goes through challenges and tribulations in life.”

Of course, the narrative would be incomplete if Lynne didn’t tell us about her voyage to Summer Bay, where she has portrayed Irene Roberts for over 30 years. While fans may be familiar with the Australian battler, the backstories are just as intriguing.

“Irene’s job in the Bay has a purpose, and I’m thrilled with who she is and has been,” Lynne says.

“However, if the events of my life had not transpired, I might not have ended up in the entertainment industry at all!”
