As the long-running TV series prepares to expire after nearly 40 years, Neighbours has issued its final cast portrait.
Neighbours’ final promotional shot of the year was released on the show’s official Twitter account on Wednesday (11th May), with the entire cast posing alongside one another.
“Class of 2022 #Neighbours,” the message reads beside a yellow love heart emoji in the image above.
The popular show was put in risk earlier this year when UK broadcaster Channel 5 announced that it will stop showing Neighbours this summer.
After Freemantle Media, the soap’s production company, was unable to locate a new production partner, it was announced in March 2022 that the show would be cancelled permanently.
While fans will undoubtedly be thrilled to see the show’s current ensemble reunited in the last cast photo, they will also be looking forward to seeing some familiar faces from the show’s past when it concludes later this year.
The bittersweet end of Neighbours will feature Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, who will be making a comeback after more than 30 years away from the show.
Executive producer Jason Herbison claimed the show was “thrilled” to be welcoming them back in a message on the soap’s official Twitter account earlier in May.
“Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours pair,” Herbison said, “and it wouldn’t feel right to end the programme without them.”
“We are overjoyed that Jason and Kylie have returned home to play a pivotal role in the series finale.” For them, for us, and I’m sure for our viewers, it’s been an emotional event.”
