Alan Fletcher, star of the Australian series Neighbours, has confirmed that he will perform a one-man show in Newcastle once the programme wraps in the summer.
Fans of the long-running sitcom experienced heartache earlier this year, first when it was rumoured that its future was in jeopardy, and then when it was confirmed that the axe had truly fallen on Neighbours, with UK broadcaster Channel 5 pulling the plug. The news was verified by a tweet from the soap’s official Twitter account, which read: “We regret to inform you that after over 37 years and approximately 9,000 episodes, we must confirm that Neighbours will end production in June.
“We have no choice but to put the show on hold following the loss of our important broadcast partner in the UK, despite a thorough hunt for alternative funding. This is a great disappointment for our amazing, dedicated fans, as well as for all of us on the team.”
The confirmation that Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue, as well as other previous Ramsey Street favourites like Daniel McPherson (Joel), Ian Smith (Harold), and Melissa Bell, will return has brought some good news to Neighbours fans in recent weeks (Lucy).
