The iconic soap star of Amazon Freevee abruptly died on a cliffhanger, shocking fans of the programme.
The 36-year-old actor Takaya has finally spoken out about the personal tragedy he was going through while filming his terrifying death sequences.
In a video message to his followers that was only made available to The Sun, Takaya candidly discussed his mother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease and how he handled the loss of both his real-life mother and his on-screen persona in a short period of time.
Takaya began by saying: “I just want to send a massive thank you to all the fans out there for their love and support, not only of David and myself but for the show as well – without you, there is no Neighbours!”
In an honest statement, the Hollywood star said, “As some of you may know, my mother passed away last year.
“She had around 15 years of early-stage Alzheimer’s on set, but none of you are aware that she died a few days after I filmed the sequences that would be David’s last on-air.
“I had already been going through a strange kind of loss leading up to that scene, a grief for David, and it got me thinking a lot about my mother since she had never actually gotten to watch me on Neighbours.
“Her Alzheimer’s had progressed to a point that by the time I was cast, she wasn’t able to watch it.”
“I felt like the timing of her passing was actually the only way she could communicate,” Takaya added. “She had been non-verbal for a few years and hadn’t been able to communicate with us.”
“I returned to the set a few days after she passed away to continue photographing David dead on a slab.
“In a weird flip of reality where everyone was breathing over me and that was a reverse of what I had just experienced.”
Eden and Leo got into a heated argument during which Eden tried to kill David’s brother by hitting him over the head with a rock.
As Eden struggled with him and they both fell off the cliff, David flung himself in to save them.
Later, he persuaded everyone to assist Eden in receiving medical attention so that he could survive; nevertheless, by the time they returned to David, Eden had unfortunately died away.
The soap opera star’s sudden, unexpected death shocked and devastated fans, who flocked to X, formerly Twitter, with their condolences.
Takaya concluded his video message to supporters by promising to “dedicate David to his mum” and urging them to stay in touch with their family members.
Additionally, he seemed to imply that even though he had been eliminated, a comeback was still possible.
Takaya replied, “Thank you and goodbye, for now – I mean, who knows, it’s Neighbours!”
