Who is Sam Frost’s hunky new Home and Away love interest Nicholas Cartwright? Actor who sparked rumours he was dating his co-star in real-life was a rifleman in the Army before starring as a hot cop on soap

Sam Frost and Nicholas Cartwright have great chemistry onscreen, so it’s only natural that they’d ignite relationship rumours in real life.

Nicholas, 33, has grabbed fans’ curiosity since joining the cast of Home and Away this year, while denying they’re a relationship offscreen.

Nicholas portrays Senior Constable Cash Newman on the long-running soap, and is the love interest of Sam’s Jasmine Delaney.

On Saturday, the on-screen couple sparked romance rumours after Sam, 32, posted a series of intimate photos with Nicholas on Instagram.

‘I mean, we’re basically the same person.’ Except @_nicholas_cartwright_ is way funnier,’ Sam wrote in the caption.

‘Edit: This is not my boyfriend,’ she clarified later. This is my great friend, who also happens to be my H&A co-star…

‘However, I agree that we are adorable.’ ‘I’m fortunate to work with such a wonderful person who is always on my side.’

Nicholas spent six years in the Australian Army as a rifleman before winning his part on Home and Away.

He admitted to having ‘zero television experience’ before being cast in the beloved TV series in a June interview with PerthNow.

Nicholas admitted to feeling “lost” after retiring from the army after deployments in East Timor and Afghanistan.

‘When you leave the military, you might feel a bit adrift, and no one wants to take a regular job,’ he told PerthNow.

‘So I decided to go to NIDA [National Institute of Dramatic Art] and see what the craziest thing I could do.’

While studying at NIDA, he met Ethan Browne, who appears in Home and Away as Tane Parata, and the two forged an enduring bond.

‘When I heard there was a hunt for a new officer in the bay, I instantly thought of this man,’ Ethan, 30, posted on Instagram shortly after Nicholas was cast.

‘Perfect for the part, and he absolutely nailed it! One of the most dedicated and worthy persons I’ve ever met! ‘I’m really proud of you, brother.’

Nicholas confessed in a July interview with Stuff that after leaving the army, he almost took an altogether new professional path.

‘When I came out, I was thinking of joining the police force or the fire department, or other government agencies that were similar to the military,’ he stated.

‘Then, when I settled into civilian life after the military, I found myself drawn to the creative arts and didn’t know what to do about it because it didn’t seem like a realistic job to me.’

‘Then one day, I just decided to take the plunge and enrol in a three-year degree at NIDA.’

Nicholas ‘was active in acting and music from a very young age,’ according to his NIDA biography, and ‘abandoned his profession as a vocalist in a rock/blues band to join the Australian Army.’

Nicholas revealed to Stuff that he was still adjusting to his sudden celebrity, and that some of his co-stars had ‘given some really solid practical advise.’

‘The attention the programme receives is beyond anything I’ve ever experienced before, but I’m extremely enthusiastic about it all, and it’s a true honour to be here,’ he added.

In a June Instagram picture, he paid respect to his coworkers by showing himself in the hair and makeup chair.

‘It takes a village,’ they say. I’m ecstatic to be moving in with my new family @homeandaway in the coming days. He wrote at the time, “Can’t thank the cast and crew enough for helping me out along the way.”
