Luke Van Os has been cast as ‘Xander,’ a new character who arrives in Summer Bay in quest of answers, according to Home and Away.
Van Os will appear as Xander, a “strange figure who arrives in the Bay in quest of answers.” It’s also been said that he’s related to a Summer Bay favourite, but who is it?
While we don’t know about his on-screen family, Luke, 24, does have a link to one of the show’s acting graduates. He’s Chris Hemsworth’s cousin, who played Kim Hyde on Home and Away from 2004 to 2007 before moving to Hollywood.
Luke stated in an interview with Australia’s The Daily Telegraph that he sought guidance from his cousin before his audition for the Australian serial.
Luke stated, “When I was asked for a comeback for the chemistry test, I actually met with Chris the night before and we ran [the scene] and just got into a nice mood.”
Chris wasn’t the only Hemsworth sibling who grew up watching Australian operas. Between 2004 and 2005, Liam played Josh Taylor in Neighbours, while Luke Hemsworth played Nathan Tyson between 2000 and 2002.
It’s now Van Os’ turn. He’s been performing and auditioning for the last eight years, but his part in Home and Away was his breakthrough, according to The Daily Telegraph.
“Acting has always been my love, and to be able to make a livelihood, pay my bills, and do this every day is a dream come true,” Luke added.
“Countless individuals have come and done [Home and Away] and gone on to have incredibly lengthy careers, and all I hope to do is act and make a livelihood for as long as I can.”
“I’m so happy to be joining a legendary programme like Home and Away, it’s a dream come true,” Luke remarked of joining the cast.
“I’m looking forward to introducing my character Xander to the UK audience.” He’s come to the Bay in quest of answers and has a strong relationship with one of the Summer Bay’s most popular characters. In 2022, all will be disclosed.”
Luke’s initial scenes were shot this week, and he’ll make his debut in early 2022.
