ITV’s hallmark ‘Super Soap Week’ has confirmed suspicions of a week of death and catastrophe for Coronation Street, with actor Sally Carman suggesting that it might even surpass the tram collapse.
Corrie’s 50th anniversary was commemorated in 2010 by a massive incident, which saw an explosion at The Joinery derail a tram off the bridge and into the homes below. It assassinated three important individuals as well as the train’s conductor.
ITV executives announced a huge event week of soaps for October in order to bring the soaps back with a flourish after the lockdown.
Pictures of a prison vehicle collision have already been leaked, fueling suspicion that Harvey Gaskell may flee for vengeance, especially as Will Mellor has confirmed a return to filming during night shoots.
Other significant threads will be engaged, with Mollie Gallagher suggesting that Nina will be dragged in to Metro.co.uk.
‘Nina goes on an emotional rollercoaster these next few weeks, which is reasonable considering what she’s gone through, but we’re going to witness some rather strange behaviour from her,’ the Best Dramatic Performance winner told us exclusively at the National Television Awards.
‘The sequences we’ve been filming are incredible; they’re so atmospheric, and the set design is incredible; it’s been an honour to be a part of it.’
‘It’s absurd,’ Sally Carman added. It’s outlandish, and it’s a lot of fun!
‘I’m working on night shots. There are plenty of stunts, and it’s been a lot of fun! It’s one of those tales where you simply think to yourself, “Oh come on!” as an actor. Let’s do it!” It’s fantastic.
‘I’m ecstatic to be a part of it. I was pinching myself in the studio last week while we were executing the stunts! “How do I get to do this?” I wondered.
‘I’m ecstatic. I’m overjoyed. It’s interesting because in real life, people wouldn’t go to the extent that they do on TV, but that’s the joy of being in a soap: you can simply push the envelope.’
‘We don’t have Chekhov’s gun in our tales, but we do have Chekhov’s sinkhole,’ Iain continued after winning the prize for Best Continuing Drama.
‘We attempted to defy the previous 12 months and the restricted method in which all soaps have been compelled to tell their tales by saying, ‘We’re back.’
‘It’s going to be massive – there’ll be a lot of passion, a lot of great spectacle – it’ll be cinematic.’
‘It’s a statement of purpose that we wanted to create as a show – to do something we couldn’t possible have made in the previous 18 months due to the epidemic.’
‘When you tell a narrative of a particular magnitude and with a certain amount of spectacle, the audience expects major consequences and conclusions.
‘So, certainly, Chekhov’s sinkhole will result in a fatality.’
‘It’ll be so enormous, it’ll match the tram crash,’ Sally added. Your socks are going to be blown off.’
