Imagine hearing a motivational speech from none other than Thor on your first day of work.
Luke Van Os, Chris, Liam, and Luke Hemsworth’s younger cousin, who made his debut as Xander Delaney on Home and Away on Thursday night, doesn’t have to imagine anything.
Fans of the Channel Seven soap will recall Chris’ role as sandy-haired surfer Kim Hyde from 2004 to 2007, before he became recognised as the Hollywood heartthrob swinging a hammer.
“We always had it (Home and Away) on in the house, and when my cousin, Chris, got the job on the show, it was a huge deal,” Van Os told AAA.
“Chris has always praised the show, and I believe the most important thing he told me (was to have fun).” Just keep up the good work.”
The 25-year-old is heeding his famous relatives’ advice, but he’s not in a rush to travel to Hollywood like many of the show’s stars have.
“All I’ve wanted to accomplish for the last ten years is be able to pay my bills as an actor and not have to work in a bar, and now that I’m doing that, I’m not in any hurry to look at what’s next.” He stated, “I’m hoping to stay here as long as they’ll let me.”
Van Os stars as a young paramedic who travels to town with his sister, Rose (Kirsty Marillier), in the hopes of meeting his half-sister, Jasmine Delaney (Sam Frost).
“Having such an action-packed career in the bay to understand this medical stuff… being able to do something that I would never do in the real world,” he remarked.
“Lynne (McGranger) was my first day on set, and she’s fantastic. We get along pretty well, which is the strangest thing about it; I’m not sure how to explain it. But it’s a good strange sensation to grow up watching someone on film and then working alongside them.”
