Melissa Bell has revealed that she will reprise her role as Lucy Robinson in Neighbours.
The actress, who first played the character in 1991, previously returned to the Ramsay Street serial last year for a brief cameo appearance.
Melissa tweeted a photo from behind-the-scenes of a vineyard regularly seen on the soap alongside co-stars Richard Huggett (Glen Donnelly) and Tim Kano, revealing the newest news on her Instagram page (Leo Tanaka).
“I’ve returned!! #lucyrobinson, everyone needs excellent neighbours “she wrote in the description of the photo.
The announcement comes as production company Fremantle revealed that the opera will finish this year due to a lack of new funding possibilities following Channel 5’s decision to cancel it.
“It is with sadness that we confirm that Neighbours will cease production in the summer, after over 37 years and approximately 9,000 episodes broadcast,” they added.
“We presently have no choice but to put the show on hold following the loss of a key broadcast partner in the UK, despite our efforts to find alternative funding.”
“Since the news broke, everyone at Neighbours has been touched by the outpouring of love and support from the audience.
“The show has brought a sunny slice of Australia into the homes of millions of people all over the world, as well as launching the careers of dozens of household celebrities.
“However, as this chapter of Ramsay Street draws to a conclusion, we pledge to do everything in our power to give the programme the send-off it so richly deserves.”
However, in addition to Melissa, a number of other familiar faces will be returning ahead of the show’s conclusion, including Ian Smith as Harold Bishop and, according to reports, Peter O’Brien as Shane Ramsay.
According to Alan Fletcher (Dr Karl Kennedy), there could be more, and former star Jason Donovan has hinted that he and Kylie Minogue could reappear as Scott and Charlene Robinson.
