When does Home and Away return in Australia and what happens next?

In the UK, Home and Away has been back on TV since the beginning of the month, but fans in Australia are still missing their daily dose of Summer Bay drama.

Since November 25, when the 2021 season finale included the death of one character, the show hasn’t broadcast a new episode in its home nation.

Here’s the facts on when Home and Away will return to Australia, as well as what’s in store for future storylines.

When is Home and Away coming back to Australia?

The return of Home and Away to Australian television screens is set for Monday, January 31.

The show is slated to return to Channel 7 on Mondays through Thursdays at 7 p.m., with episodes also available on 7Plus.

The news means that Home and Away fans in Australia will have been waiting for the season finale cliffhangers to be resolved for over nine weeks. In relation to that…

What happened in the season finale of Home and Away?

In November, the season finale of Home and Away had numerous high-stakes cliffhangers, leaving viewers wondering what would happen to some of their favourite characters.

After a battle with Summer Bay newbie Matthew Montgomery ended in tragedy, Mia (Anna Samson) and Chloe Anderson (Sam Barrett) were at the centre of the most drama.

During an argument outside the Parata house, Matthew (James Sweeny), Chloe’s villainous father, grabbed Mia and shouted in her face. Chloe panicked and slammed a brick into Matthew’s head, but she was shocked when he collapsed dead to the ground.

Mia took command of the situation by loading Matthew’s body into the family car’s trunk and driving away. On the way, Mia’s unusual behaviour drew the notice of local cop Cash Newman (Nicholas Cartwright), who began chasing her.

Ryder Jackson’s online video challenges with Theo Poulos began to spiral out of control in the Bay, when he volunteered to be buried alive.

Ryder (Lukas Radovich) planned to spend five hours locked in a buried coffin, but the situation became nightmarish when Theo (Matt Evans), who was supposed to be keeping an eye on him above ground, stumbled and fell unconscious.

Ryder was concerned when he heard about Theo’s accident, fearing that he would be trapped indefinitely because none of his other friends or family knew where he was.

Another major plotline featured Martha Stewart (Belinda Giblin) debating whether or not to accept her daughter Roo’s life-saving kidney transplant (Georgie Parker).

What will happen next in Home and Away?

Cash will eventually catch up with Mia and search her car boot before handcuffing her, according to a recent trailer for the events of 2022.

Meanwhile, Chloe tries to destroy evidence but eventually confesses everything to her friend Bella Nixon (Courtney Miller), who backs her up.

Mia will also cry in front of her fiancé Ari Parata (Rob Kipa-Williams), pleading with him to protect her – but fans will have to wait and see if the couple’s engagement is now in peril.

New faces will be joining Summer Bay later this year. Luke Van Os has been cast as the mysterious Xander, and Kirsty Marillier has been cast as the new regular Rose.

As the year advances, we’ll have to say goodbye to some of our favourite characters, as Sam Frost (Jasmine Delaney) and Harley Bonner (Logan Bennett) both wrapped production on the programme in December.
