The decision of Andrew ‘Twiggy’ Forrest and his wife Nicola to live apart could cause their middle child, Sophia, to experience wedding day agony.
The non-binary actor from Home & Away, who uses they/them pronouns, is getting married to actress Zara Zoe, who is also her fiancée.
But after announcing their separation, Sophia now has to deal with the possibility of having her parents sit on different sides of the aisle.
The couple, who are the wealthiest in Australia and have been wed for more than 30 years, announced their separation and decision to live apart in a statement on Wednesday night.
‘We have decided to live separately after 31 years of marriage. In a joint statement to The Australian Financial Review, Andrew and Nicola Forrest stated that their friendship and dedication to their family “remain strong.”
Just a few days prior, Sophia had posted several images of Zara on Instagram, including some of the couple kissing.
Behind rival mining tycoon Gina Rinehart, Mr. Forrest, well known by the moniker “Twiggy,” was named the second wealthiest person in Australia this year.
The majority of the couple’s wealth was accumulated through their 36% ownership position in Fortescue Metals Group, an iron ore miner that they created in 2003 and is currently the eighth-largest business on the ASX by market value.
The reason that none of Sophia’s three children would inherit their mining mogul parents’ $32 billion fortune was made public just two days after Sophia, 28, and Zoe, 27, announced their engagement in April of last year.
Children don’t gain from believing they will inherit a significant sum of money, Nicola said in an interview with ABC’s Australian Story last year.
Money can’t purchase the things that matter most in life, she added. “We live in a home, and I have a great life,” she remarked.
I consider inheritance to be a burden.
The choice to donate everything but the commodities and personal items, according to Andrew, was simple.
“Let’s not die wealthy, you know.” What purpose does that serve?
Sophia certainly doesn’t appear to disagree with their parents’ choice.
“I’ve never really understood inheritance.” Sophia said, “You watch it rip families apart and it baffles me,” in a 2017 interview with the Sydney Morning Herald.
You are not entitled to that money because you haven’t worked for it or earned it, therefore I fail to understand why you believe it should be yours. So we all decided to distribute everything.
Knowing that it’s not my problem is a relief. Things are going to get better. I don’t require it. I’m going to work hard and support myself.
Sophia won’t do too terribly despite not receiving their parents’ billions. According to the AFR, they paid $1.8 million in cash, with no financing required, in 2021 to purchase a two-story penthouse in Sydney’s Waterloo.
Russell Crowe, Teresa Palmer, and Jason Momoa were all co-stars in Sophia’s films The Water Diviner, Ride Like a Girl, and Aquaman, respectively.
The actress also appeared in Barons, Love Child, Bali 2002, and Home and Away.
After being seen together at an NRL game, Sophia and Crowe were said to be dating, but Crowe soon denied the claims.
On the set of Ride Like a Girl, a film based on the real life of Micelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup in 2015, Sophia and Zoe became friends.
The wedding date has not yet been disclosed by the couple.
The other two children of Andrew and Nicola Forrest are son Syndey and daughter Grace.
