After a “surreal” experience, the fan favourite gave a sincere interview.
Lynne McGranger, a beloved Home and Away cast member, is celebrating the “surreal” occasion of receiving her first Logie nomination.
The actress has received her first nomination for her role as Irene on the popular Channel 7 drama, which she has played for 30 years. She says it “feels like it is not real” to receive the nomination.
The winner of the TV WEEK Silver Logie award for Most Popular Actress, which McGranger is up for, will be revealed on July 30 at The Star Sydney.
After learning of her nomination, she tells 7Life, “I still feel like it’s not real.
It’s quite bizarre; I’m at a loss for words.
“Like, why am I suddenly nominated after 31 years?”
The actress claims she is “not whining,” but after spending so much time on film, she found humour in the nomination.
“It seems as though they went, “This year, let’s put all the show’s senior citizens up for nomination. What a great concept.
It’s kind of a decent idea to say, “Let’s not give it to anyone under the age of 45.”
It is incredibly exhilarating and somewhat reminiscent of ancient power.
According to McGranger, it is “fun” to be nominated among some of her closest friends and family members from the series.
James Stewart and Ray Meagher, co-stars of Home and Away, are up for a Silver Logie in the category of most popular actor, while Ada Nicodemou and Emily Symons are up for nominations in the actress category alongside McGranger.
She says, “I wish all the nominees the best of luck; it’s just a lovely thing to be a part of.”
The actress is unable to single out a particular narrative that she feels contributed to her nomination after reviewing the development of her characters over the course of the past year.
“We’ve done some great storylines,” says McGranger.
“We had the ones where Emily’s character, Marilyn, her evil daughter came to town and lured us all away and we all ended up getting drugged and tied up, just like it was a normal Saturday night, you know,” she quips about the dramatic plot.
The plot was excellent, and it was wonderful for the elder people to cooperate.
“And also the story that is currently airing with the huge explosion at Stunning Organics.”
While Irene, a character played by McGranger, was not directly involved in that plot, she did have “a lot to do with John Palmer, a character played by Shane Withington, who almost dies, and Georgie Parker, who plays Roo, who is in all sorts,” according to McGranger.
“So I don’t think my current plot lines have anything to do with the nominations; I just think that whoever selects you just must have said, ‘Oh, hang on a minute, you know, let’s give them a go.'”
“I’m not complaining; it’s lovely.”
Even though there is much to celebrate for Home and Away, the star explained that she will be returning to work to continue filming after the announcement.
She explains, “I’m there until seven o’clock tonight – if I’m still awake since I had to be in makeup at five this morning at half past three.”
