Georgie Parker, the star of Home and Away who rose to popularity as Roo, has spoken up about her health struggles, which have caused her to lose “three inches of height.”
After appearing as Roo Stewart in the venerable serial opera in 2010, the actress was catapulted into the spotlight. She plays the daughter of Ray Meagher’s character Alf Stewart and Belinda Gibson’s character Martha.
The 58-year-old has retained the position ever since Justine Clarke stepped down from it. Her character Roo might be in for more destruction after a surprising plot involving the dishonest cosmetics brand Stunning Organics resulted in an explosion.
In forthcoming scenes, she expresses concern that the bomb and accompanying fall out have immobilised her, indicating that she is unable to feel her legs. It only becomes worse when her blood pressure dips and she spontaneously stops breathing.
For the duration of her life, actress Georgie has struggled with her own health. Her aspirations to become a dancer were dashed after receiving a scoliosis diagnosis. When she was 13 years old, she received a diagnosis for the illness, which can afflict persons of any age but is most prevalent in those between the ages of 10-15.
Georgie was forthright about her personal health difficulties as her Home and Away character was recovering from a kidney donation operation. The actress shared her experience with scoliosis, a condition in which the spine twists and curves to one side, with Body+Soul back in 2020.
She said: “Every scoliosis is different, it’s like a fingerprint – but mine is all in the torso, and I’ve lost about three inches in height.” I have to do a lot of strength training, she said. I go swimming frequently. I started swimming in the ocean at COVID, and it has been thrilling.
Although it has been really cold, much of the fun is in the discomfort. Ask me why, but don’t. Doing something difficult has been good for my mental health.
She stated to Now To Love in 2017: “It affects me every day, and I just have to maintain a healthy weight to keep my back as functioning as possible. I’ve never complained about my scoliosis, and it’s made me appreciate how fortunate I am to still be able to lead a mostly normal life despite facing this serious obstacle.
Steve Worland, a well-known playwright and screenwriter, is married to Georgie.
The couple was married in 1999 and had Holly, a daughter, in 2000. Steve is best known for penning the 2014 Australian family movie Paper Planes, starring Sam Worthington from Avatar.
