Next week, Ari Parata and Mia Anderson of Home and Away will encounter another barrier in their quest to have a child together, as they struggle to overcome their adoption failure.
Mia (Anna Samson) and her partner Ari (Rob Kipa-Williams) have sought to adopt a child after another sad miscarriage earlier this year. Their application was just denied, and Ari blamed himself for having a criminal past.
The pair is desperate to overturn the decision, especially because Ari has made such a positive change in his life, but their efforts are going to be tested once more by more unpleasant news.
Ari’s brother Tane Parata (Ethan Browne) will be in serious condition after being exposed to a chemical attack when the soap returns to UK screens next week after its holiday hiatus. Mackenzie Booth (Emily Weir) takes it upon herself to call Tane’s family and inform them of his condition once he is brought to the hospital.
While Mia and Ari are mourning their rough day with the adoption solicitors, Mackenzie calls them and they rush to the hospital to be with Tane.
Tane’s condition is grave in the hospital, but Logan Bennett (Harley Bonner) refuses to give up on him, despite Jasmine Delaney’s (Sam Frost) suggestion that he halt compressions. Tane’s heart rate finally appears just as Logan is about to quit up.
Tane is transported to the ICU, where it is revealed that he is in possession of a sedative, as well as the hazardous gas that was discharged into Salt. Mia and Ari are anxious to see him, but they are forced to observe him through the ICU door owing to Tane’s high levels of dangerous chemical exposure.
When Cash Newman (Nicholas Cartwright) arrives to collect Tane’s reports, Ari confronts him, demanding to know who has attacked his brother in this manner.
Mia gets a call from the adoption lawyer, and she begs Ari for his advice, but he shouts at her, unable to focus about anything but Tane and his near-death situation.
Ari later apologises to Mia for becoming enraged and advises her to contact an adoption lawyer.
However, when Justin Morgan (James Stewart) discovers Ari venting his rage on a vending machine, he offers to accompany him on a stroll to help him relax. Ari shares his and Mia’s adoption ambitions with Justin, acknowledging that his criminal history is still coming up with him.
When Nikau Parata (Kawakawa Fox-Reo) learns of Tane’s fate, he is enraged and begins to construct his own judgement about who is to blame for his suffering, blaming Felicity Newman (Jacqui Purvis).
Ari immediately realises that there may be a way to avoid the adoption issue totally by removing his name from the application.
Mia is adamantly opposed to the idea, but will she change her mind as their battle progresses?
