Emily Weir, who starred in the TV show Home and Away, has spoken up about her alcoholism.
To cope with her anxiousness, the Mackenzie Booth actor turned to drinking, according to Australia’s Who Magazine.
“I was self-medicating with red wine,” she admitted, “but I managed to cover it all extremely well.”
“I overlooked the problem because, like most individuals in their early twenties, I wanted to travel and party with my pals. At the moment, I began drinking more to counteract the worry, and all of my anxieties vanished. However, I grew reliant on alcohol.”
She stated that she realised her personal life had crumbled and resolved to become sober, which she has done to this day.
She said, “I realised I had to stop drinking.” “I realised I had to address why I was drinking since it wasn’t serving me well.”
She revealed that she sought treatment from Alcoholic Anonymous and a counsellor, which she claims won’t work for everyone but did for her.
“The more you shine a light on anxiety and addiction, the less power it has,” she concluded. It’s not easy, but I hope that by coming up, anyone else who is struggling understands that these difficulties can and do affect everyone.
“I’m committed to bringing attention to something that impacts so many of us.”
