The neighbourhood has been shocked by the aftermath of a horrific chemical attack. After a delayed reaction, Marilyn (Emily Symons) has been placed in an induced coma, Martha’s (Belinda Giblin) organs are failing, and Tane (Ethan Browne) is the most severely afflicted as the principal target.
Mia (Anna Samson), Ari (Rob Kipa-Williams), and Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo) have been monitoring Tane in the hospital from afar, waiting for the poison exposure to reduce enough for them to be at his side. Finally, they are allowed to enter his room, and they begin to worry when he will awaken.
They press Logan (Harley Bonner) for a prognosis, but he is unable to deliver one, much to their dismay. Instead, the doctor appears perplexed by the medical riddle and suggests that Tane should be awake by now, angering and frightening the Paratas.
Logan approaches Ari with an offer after some consideration: there is a medical remedy that could assist Tane regain awareness, but it comes with hazards. Bio-scavengers, he suggests, are a solution that is only theoretical or in the early stages of clinical studies.
Logan claims that the treatment is the only one that has the ability to bring Tane back, but it also has the potential to fail.
Ari is the only one who can determine whether or not he wants to risk the risky medical treatment.
Will he take a gamble and hope for the best?
