This week, the Parata family is dealing with Ari’s cancer diagnosis, and emotions are running high. Ari has now opted against undergoing the life-saving procedure.
Ari (Rob Kipa-Williams) was hurried to the hospital with probable appendicitis after feeling intense stabbing pains in prison.
Dr. Logan’s (Harley Bonner) discovery, however, was even more concerning: numerous tumours in the belly. Ari had been sentenced to life in jail, but now he is facing death.
The prospect of losing his uncle to prison has been almost agonising for Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo). How will he cope with the fact that he will never see him again?
“That’s a sobering truth for Nikau, and he’d do everything in his power to prevent it,” Kawakawa says to TV WEEK.
Mia (Anna Samson) seeks optimism from Dr Logan, while Tane (Ethan Browne) convinces Nikau that all is not lost.
Except for a drastic surgery to remove the tumours, treatment options for such an aggressive cancer are few and far between. Ari, however, refuses, much to her astonishment.
Mia, Tane, and Nikau are all taken aback. Why would he refuse to fight? Ari, on the other hand, says that a life in prison or a hospital is no longer something he desires.
He’s prepared to depart on his own terms. He’s also getting married to the love of his life. It’s a day to rejoice rather than bemoan.
Meanwhile, Felicity (Jacqui Purvis) and Bella (Courtney Miller) at the Parata family await news of the surprise wedding. Felicity expresses her dissatisfaction with being a member of the family.
Tane has encouraged her to enter the hallowed grounds with him. Bella takes a moment to listen before emphasising how much Tane loves Felicity and how he may need her now more than ever.
Mia and Ari are ready to marry back at the hospital. The entire family is moved by their vows, which temporarily distracts them from their dreadful circumstances.
But, just as suddenly, their world is turned upside down as Ari passes out!
Hang in there, Ari!
Is Dean going to tell Karen she has to leave?
Karen has continued to intrude on her son Dean’s life since her arrival in Summer Bay. It began as a means of hiding from her fiancé as she grappled with the prospect of becoming a wife.
Now that she’s discovered she’s a grandma, she wants to stay in town – but not just anywhere; she wants to live with Dean (Patrick O’Connor) and Ziggy (Sophie Dillman).
Things get even cosier this week as Karen (Georgia Adamson) receives a surprise visitor. Brett shows up unexpectedly. Karen wants to be his wife, but she isn’t ready yet.
Dean, in an unexpected move, acts as a mediator between the two, leaving Ziggy out in the cold!
Ziggy, at the end of her rope, makes a bold proposition to calm Karen and Brett’s nerves. Will it, however, be successful?
