Mackenzie finds herself too afraid to leave the hospital the following week on Home and Away in the UK, as Xander organises a charity event in her honour. Can her new doctor, who exudes charisma, win her over?
Mackenzie (Emily Weir) was hospitalised during finale week due to a suspected second heart attack, therefore her condition was critical.
After spending a significant amount of time researching the symptoms of her illness, spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD), Mac had already called for paramedics earlier that day. However, she was informed that her chest pain was probably the result of a panic attack.
As it happened, Mac had experienced a blood clot this time around, necessitating immediate surgery.
Levi, the cardiothoracic surgeon for Mac (Tristan Gorey), was not happy that Mac had left the hospital despite his advise. He accused former paramedic Xander (Luke Van Os) for giving Mac the impression that she would be better off at home.
After Mac was cleared, Mali, Mac’s housemate (Kyle Shilling), informed Xander that SCAD is a subject of ongoing research and that he has personally looked into it.
This gave Xander the idea to hold a fundraiser, and soon after, Salt co-owner Felicity (Jacqui Purvis) gave him the go-ahead to hold the “Salt by the Sea” event in Mac’s memory.
Xander already has his hands full planning the celebration for next week. After lover Remi (Adam Rowland) was admitted to the hospital, Bree (Juliet Godwin), who was scheduled to give the keynote address about the illness, was forced to withdraw. Lyrik won’t be able to play as scheduled, which is a double blow for Xander.
Mali, in the meantime, informs Mac about the plans and is taken aback when she concurs that they are a fine idea.
When he asks if Mac could be freed up to be the honoured guest, she instantly knocks down the notion, saying that Levi would never let her go.
Mac seems uncomfortable when Levi reassures her later that it would be okay for her to attend for a few hours.
Xander is quick to anticipate John (Shane Withington) when he walks up to him at Salt and says hello.
Without barely looking up from the bar, he says, “No free tickets, John.”
John asks if a replacement speaker has been located as soon as Levi enters. Before recognising that Levi is the “Dr. Fowler” who helped Mac, John introduces himself to him. A cardiothoracic surgeon is the best person to discuss SCAD, so John asks Xander why he’s waiting.
Given their recent altercations, Xander says he would rather to throw up in a hat and wear it. Nevertheless, he grudgingly approaches Levi after understanding he has no other choice. When Kirby (Angelina Thomson) and Theo (Matt Evans) volunteer to perform as a duo, the musical problem is also resolved.
When Levi gets back to the hospital, he informs Mac that he will be speaking at the function and that he will set up a day pass so she can go with him.
But the following day, when Levi and Xander come back, Mac declines to go, saying she doesn’t want to be pushed around and that she didn’t accomplish anything to merit the attention.
But finally, she confesses that the hospital is the only place she feels safe, and Levi can tell there’s more to it. She vows never to make the mistake of leaving.
Despite Levi’s assurances that Mac will be OK, she refuses to listen. As a result, he decides to shift his strategy and declares that he will not be attending either, which will cause chaos as he is the keynote speaker.
After promising to stick by her side, Mac eventually agrees to go to the event, and the two get dressed up to look their best.
When the party gets going back in Summer Bay, Irene tells Xander that he did a great job.
Both JP and Mali tidy up nicely, and John tries to intervene to make sure there isn’t any waste when Mali turns down his complimentary glass of champers.
Xander is relieved when honoree Mac eventually arrives with Levi; they are greeted with thunderous ovation as they go in.
Xander welcomes everyone to the event, states with pride that $8000 has been raised from ticket sales to support SCAD research, and he thanks everyone for their assistance.
Xander turns over the reins to Levi, who is prepared with his cue cards but eventually chooses not to annoy everyone with a tonne of numbers and data. He delivers a moving speech about his patient instead.
“Mackenzie’s life is not just a statistic,” he says. That’s the reason research is so crucial. It’s the only way to stop other young, strong, incredible people like her from experiencing what happened to her.
As their eyes meet, Mac appears moved and appears to be seeing Levi in a different way.
Mac is very appreciative of Levi’s support that day when they subsequently visit the hospital. It felt good to be free again.
Then Mac gives Levi a kiss, leaving Levi speechless!
For a short while, he gives her the same in return before stepping away and urging her to go rest.
Mac is ecstatic when Levi leaves, but it’s obvious that he’s concerned.
Is Levi just considering the fact that, as Mac’s physician, a moral dilemma exists, or is there more to be concerned about?
After Leah (Ada Nicodemou) checked herself into a mental health clinic, the incident turns out to be a double-edged sword for Justin (James Stewart), who is aching for her.
Having to abide by the doctor’s directions to stay in no contact with Leah is the hardest part for Justin, especially since there’s no telling how long she’ll be gone.
Thus, when Marilyn (Emily Symons) discloses that she has not only written to Leah but also responded to her, Justin becomes irate!
The sole concern is how to get it to Leah since there’s no guarantee the clinic will provide it to her even if Leah knows it came from him.
Justin then returns to Marilyn to request a small favour. Will she, however, voluntarily engage in such deceit?
