Home and Away, an Australian soap opera that has been running for 33 years, has exposed us to a number of actors who have gone on to have enormous success.
After their time on the show, some went on to have successful careers in Hollywood, while others went on to have successful careers in other fields.
Take a peek at where some of the Home and Away stars are now.
Kate Ritchie as Sally Fletcher
Sally Fletcher, played by Kate Ritchie, initially featured in the premiere episode of Home and Away and went on to become the show’s longest-serving original female cast member.
She engaged in a variety of dramatic storylines during her time on the show, and she even moved to Ireland at one point.
Sally left in 2008 and returned for a brief period in 2013.
Kate went on to act in local series such as Underbelly and Cops LAC after leaving Home and Away. She also has two children’s books and has a radio breakfast show in Australia.
Nicolle Dickson as Bobby Simpson
Nicolle Dickson, who played Bobby, was a fan favourite throughout her time on the show.
Bobby was the obnoxious foster kid who was known to throw a few punches when the situation demanded it.
She left the show in 1993 and went on to appear in a number of other series in minor roles. In 2006, Nicolle starred in Celebrity Survivor.
Nicolle has since quit the performing industry and now works as an accountant and bookkeeper.
Ryan Kwanten as Vinnie Paterson
Vinnie worked as a stripper in Summer Bay on the side. As he was continually seeking a get-rich scheme, he eventually ended up in jail for fraud.
Ryan Kwanten left the show in 2002 after ten years and has since worked on several noteworthy shows including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and New Girl.
He is well recognised for his role as Jason Stackhouse in True Blood from 2008 to 2014.
Ryan has been extremely busy in recent years, and he has a number of projects planned for 2022.
Isla Fisher as Shannon Reed
Shannon previously attempted, but failed, to break up Shane and Angel Parrish’s relationship. In 1997, she is thought to have moved away with her girlfriend.
Isla Fisher has gone on to have a huge career since then. She has appeared in a number of films, including The Great Gatsby, Nocturnal Animals, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Arrested Development, and others.
Isla is married to Sacha Baron Cohen, an actor, and they have three children together.
Tempany Deckert as Selina Roberts
Selina Roberts, a teen, was continually getting herself into trouble. She was the grunge girl who had a miscarriage at school and fell in love with her teacher.
Tempany had a few brief appearances in series, TV movies, and shorts after leaving the show in 1998.
She presently resides in the United States and has written several children’s books.
Dieter Brummer as Shane Parrish
Shane Parrish, who appeared on Home and Away from 1992 until 1996, was one of the show’s most popular characters.
He was a part of a lot of tragic storylines, including losing custody of his son only to discover the child had cancer and leaving the programme after his character died of blood poisoning. Not to mention his relationship with Angel Parrish’s highs and lows.
Dieter went on to star in a variety of shows after Home and Away, including Neighbours, Medivac, and Underbelly, before retiring from acting in 2014.
Because of his feud with Melissa George, who played Angel, he was mentioned in the media for a long time. Dieter apparently requested that Shane be fired so that he would no longer have to deal with her.
Dieter was tragically discovered dead in his house in Glenhaven, near Sydney, in 2021. Officers from the New South Wales Police Force responded to a ‘concern for welfare’ report and discovered him. His death was not investigated as a homicide.
Melissa George as Angel Parrish
Melissa portrayed an adolescent runaway who grew up to be one half of one of the show’s most popular couples.
She left the show in 1996 and went on to star in Friends, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Good Wife, among other shows. She also starred alongside Naomi Watts in Mulholland Drive. Melissa’s most recent role was in the year 2021.
Melissa apparently ‘tried to walk off set’ when Angel was brought up, and she wasn’t the only one who didn’t get along with Dieter Brummer.
“I don’t need credibility from my nation anymore,” Melissa subsequently told a local newspaper. “I simply need them all to be quiet.” Please don’t speak to me any longer if they have nothing intelligent to say.”
Chris Hemsworth as Kim Hyde
Kim Hyde, the high school dropout heartthrob, was played by Chris Hemsworth.
Chris rose to stardom after leaving Home and Away in 2007, and has since gone on to become a Hollywood sensation and household name.
Chris is maybe most recognised for his role as Thor in a multitude of films and television episodes since 2013. He’s also been in the Ghostbusters reboot, Men in Black: International, and a number of other films.
Chris will play Hulk Hogan in a movie about his life, according to reports.
Heath Ledger as Scott Irwin
Heath briefly appeared on the show in 1997 as bad guy Scott Irwin.
After that, Heath’s career took off, with appearances in films like 10 Things I Hate About You, A Knight’s Tale, and Brokeback Mountain.
The Joker in The Dark Knight was one of Heath’s most famous parts, with many critics stating that his portrayal of Batman’s arch-enemy was the best.
Heath Ledger sadly died in 2008 from an accidental prescription drug overdose.
