Sarah Roberts was beginning a life with not only her Home and Away co-star James Stewart, but also his daughter, Scout, when she fell in love with him.
Sarah became a stepmother nearly immediately after marrying in 2019.
Sarah may not be Scout’s biological mother (that honour belongs to James’ ex Jessica Marais), but their unbreakable friendship has shown that love isn’t confined to blood kin over the years.
Since falling in love, she and her husband James Stewart have made Scout the centre of their lives, but Sarah’s attachment with the nine-year-old has become even stronger in the last two years.
“I realised Scout became like my little best friend and my little shadow during lockdown – because I was in the trenches home-schooling, cooking, and cleaning,” Sarah told the Australian Women’s Weekly in 2021.
“We now chat about everything, and it’s a wonderful friendship that I treasure since we created it from the ground up.”

Scout, Sarah’s nine-year-old son, was Sarah’s top priority from the start of her relationship with James. In 2021, she stated, “We didn’t want Scout to have some lady zooming in and out of her life.” “I wanted to be a steady adult in her life, and we didn’t want to bring it up or make it public unless we were sure Scout would be secure. That was always our first priority, and work came in second.”

Sarah has joked in the past that James is envious of the girls’ club she and Scout have co-founded. She told the Australian Women’s Weekly, “We gang up on him occasionally, it’s pretty entertaining.”

Sarah, 37, is open to being a mother one day, despite the fact that she has no biological children. “I know one day our time will come,” she stated in 2020, “and we will be able to give [Scout] a brother or sister.”
