Lynne McGranger, a popular star of Home and Away, will be temporarily leaving Summer Bay to focus on her new career as a stage comedy, The Grandparents Club.
“(I’ll be going for) just a little while — not leaving anything permanently,” Lynne stated during her appearance on Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur’s The Morning Show.
The 71-year-old’s roots are in theatre, even though she became the longest-serving female character on Home and Away in 1993 after making her debut as Irene.
“I came from revue-type situations (shows) — from community theatre, all of that — I’m getting back to my roots, singing and dancing, interacting with the audience,” she stated.
“I can hold a tune and I can belt-out a number, but I’m no Aretha Franklin.”
Before that, in 2018, Lynne had an appearance in the Australian adaptation of Legally Blonde the Musical.
Regarding the stage musical, Lynne gave high marks to all those involved, especially writer Wendy Harmer, whom she’s known since the 1980s and who she calls “fabulous” and “should be the queen of Australia.”
She went on to talk about the Australian musical that was made to honour grandparents in all of their lovely manifestations.
“It’s review style, its four people – myself included – four us turn up to the club for the day and we have a day in the club,” she explained.
“The audience has entered The Grandparents Club, which offers bingo, trivia, a massage, a gym, and a sauna. Taking the piss out of what people think grandparents are, in a sense,” she remarked.
Which is obviously ancient and shaky. however, grandparents can actually be seen climbing Everest or bungee jumping in their 40s these days.”
