Kate Ritchie shares ‘tragic’ Home and Away throwback: ‘Poor Sally’

A vintage video from Kate Ritchie’s time on Home and Away has gone viral on social media.

The actress, who later became a radio celebrity, revealed a sequence from the Channel 7 programme in which she played a young girl named Sally, who was frequently told no by other characters.

Ritchie, who portrayed Sally Fletcher in the programme from 1988 to 2008, posted an edited collection of video from a fan account dedicated to Home and Away.

She was shown in several instances asking adult characters whether she might go somewhere with them, participate, or lend a hand in any manner.

And each time, what was it she was told? “No!”

The song All By Myself by Celine Dion was playing in the background as the video was displayed in a reel.

Stupid Sally. Really? Yes, that does explain a few things. 📺⛱️🌊☀️👧🏻🩷👩🏻📺🏠🌊 @homeandaway.The early years never stop them.

“You give us so many LOLs from the old Home and Awayers, #sallyfletcher.”

The devastating clip from her acting days sparked immediate reactions from co-stars and fans of the adored programme.

“Oh dearest Kate!!” was written by Debra Lawrance, who portrayed Pippa Ross in the programme. The screenwriters forced us to do that 😞😂💶💎💎💎💎💎💎💎.

Emily Symons, star of Home and Away, just posted some heart emojis.

“Oh my god. This is both heartbreaking and humorous at the same time, someone commented.

“Many thanks for sharing this. We think Sally can probably come along at any time,” someone else remarked.

“These are really great! Another person said, “Poor Sally never realised she was treated so badly 😂.”

Ritchie has already reposted old videos from her Home and Away days on Instagram.

She posted a clip from the Channel 7 broadcast in October 2022, where she played in front of an enthralled audience alongside a local band.

Ritchie remarked at the time, “I have watched this blast from the past video multiple times tonight.”

I have happy memories of all the beautiful people I worked with in the past.

It’s interesting how, looking back on it now, I recall being sick to my stomach the day I saw this scene.

She concluded the message by saying, “There might just be a lesson in that for me.”

When Ritchie first came to the bay in 1988, she was eight years old. She portrayed the character until 2008, making a brief comeback in 2013 to coincide with the show’s 25th anniversary.
