Star of Home and Away Lynne McGranger has announced that she will be taking a little hiatus from the series to focus on an intriguing new endeavour.
In order to spend more time starring in the original stage play The Grandparents Club, the actress will be taking a temporary break from her role as Irene Roberts in the soap opera.
During her appearance on Australia’s The Morning Show today (January 29), the celebrity revealed the news and gave fans hope that Irene wouldn’t be gone from Summer Bay for too long.
She stated, “[I’ll be going for] just a little while,” adding that she is “not leaving anything permanently” (via 7 News).
In addition, McGranger, who has been playing Irene for 21 years, hinted at some of the elements of her part in the upcoming stage piece, saying that The Grandparents Club will be “a way of taking the mickey out of what people perceive grandparents to be”.
“Which is, of course, old and doddery,” she went on, “but in fact, grandparents can be in their 40s these days, bungee jumping or climbing Everest.”
The celebrity went on to say that she will be “getting back to my roots, singing and dancing, interacting with the audience” during the performance.
“I can hold a tune and I can belt-out a number, but I’m no Aretha Franklin,” she quipped.
Not only has McGranger been working on a side project outside of the serial opera, but Ada Nicodemou, who plays Leah Patterson, has disclosed that she has penned her first children’s book.
“Funny”, “warm”, and “all about the crazy Greek culture” are how she has described Mia Megastar.
