Xander is working hard to finish “Salt by the Sea,” and everyone in the neighbourhood is helping to make it a memorable occasion. However, there isn’t much entertainment at the benefit because Eden isn’t ready to play again and Remi is still on life support.
She’s thrilled when Theo offers that he and Kirby play the gig together, but he politely asks, “What would Remi want them to do?” Kirby is persuaded, and they accept.
Justin tells Theo how much he misses Leah and how difficult it is to adhere to the doctor’s directions to have no contact at all. He is so dismayed to learn from Marilyn that she has been writing to Leah and has received a letter in return.
Before long, Justin calls the clinic and demands to talk to his fiancée, but they refuse to give in because it’s against the law. Justin lets it all out on Alf, who is really kind, and before long, he’s writing something down in the Surf Club office. Alf urges his pal to express his emotions through writing.
Levi tries a different approach, saying that even though he is the keynote speaker, he won’t go if Mac is determined that she won’t leave the hospital to attend the fundraiser.
After promising to be by Mac’s side the entire time, Levi finally gets dressed up and they arrive together. Instead of discussing science and numbers in his lecture, Levi chooses to talk candidly about one of his patients in particular. He tells the assembly, “Mackenzie’s life is more than a number.” Mac observes, moved to tears.
The intimacy between them is evident as he walks her back to the hospital. Mac gives her surgeon a kiss after realising something. Is this going to be Mac’s big love?
In other scenes, Tane and Felicity continue to work out their relationship, and Felicity leaves the fundraiser after being struck down by a flashback to her unhappy marriage. When Tane sees her go, he quickly corrects his estranged ex’s misperceptions about his mental state and chases after her.
