How Home and Away alum Tammin Sursok overcame intense body insecurities to star in Stan’s Joe vs Carole

Tammin Sursok, who starred as a scantily dressed bombshell on Stan’s Joe vs Carole, has opened up about overcoming body image issues to act as a scantily clad bombshell.

The 38-year-old actress revealed behind-the-scenes images of herself in red lingerie while filming the drama series, which follows Carole Baskin, a famous large cat rescuer, and her arch enemy Joe Exotic.

“As you can see from my clothing, my character was quite at ease with her sexuality and sauntered around accepting her body carelessly,” Tammin wrote.

“Not that much for me.” I’m not going to lie, I was ecstatic to get cast in this job, but I was quite self-conscious about my appearance.
Tammin claims that she was taught as a woman and a mother to “hide away and be invisible.”

“I felt a portion of my old self come back into my body when I stepped on set in this costume, even though it took a while,” she added.

“I pretended to hide behind this identity, but the character, to be honest, began to transform into myself. The previous version of myself. Instead of ripping myself apart, I’d gaze in the mirror and approve.”

Despite the fact that Tammin’s time on Joe vs Carol was brief, she is grateful for the show because it “made a lasting influence on how I felt about myself,” she said.

The mother-of-two has been open about her body image issues for a long time, and she disclosed in December 2021 that she was bullied as a child for being overweight.

“I weighed 200 pounds (90kg) when I was 13 years old, and I was bullied a lot. Boys were mean to me; they would hurl pebbles at my head, and kids would laugh behind my back,” she explained.

“I only felt joyful when I was pursuing my dreams of becoming an actor and musician. I developed a crush on a guy who told me I would never amount to anything. I advised him to keep an eye on the situation.”

The Aquamarine actress went on to claim that she was bullied for the most of her adolescence, but she chose to persist and not be broken by “people’s comments, bathed in hate.”

“If you find yourself in this predicament, I guarantee you that you are deserving, that you are sufficient, and that I want you to GET UP. Your dreams can come true, but only if you want them to. I notice you. I’ve figured it out.”

Tammin had the last laugh in the end, landing the role of Dani Sutherland on Home and Away when she was only 16 years old.

Since leaving her four-year job in Summer Bay, her career has continued to soar. She went on to star in the television shows Pretty Little Liars and Hannah Montana.
