The cast of Home and Away toast to their long-running legacy

Few programmes have achieved the same level of success as Home And Away in the constantly evolving Australian television scene. Since its 1988 debut, the classic drama has run for 36 seasons. It remains a mainstay on our televisions and won the Logie this year for Most Popular Drama Series.
It’s the show’s second consecutive victory (it also won the trophy in 2022) despite stiff opposition.

“There were amazing shows in that category, so we figured our only chance was that it’s a Popular category and we’ve been rating well for a number of years,” says Ray Meagher, 79, recipient of the 2010 Gold Logie Award, to TV WEEK.
Although it was unexpected, we are merely happy.
Five cast members, Ray, James Stewart, Emily Symons, Lynne McGranger, and Ada Nicodemou, were nominated for individual awards as part of the celebration, demonstrating their continued popularity with viewers.
“The best drama finds a way to evolve and bring the audience along with you,” says Georgie Parker, 58, of their success. “Our writers’ ability to provide readers with engaging content is one of their strengths.”
With their fans at the forefront of their minds and ongoing success, Home And Away’s future appears more promising than the sky over Summer Bay.
“Our audience never gets lost,” claims Ray. “We have a substantial cast of recurring people, and every few years, new faces join them to share their tales. But when viewers tune in and witness one of the classics, they recognise the programme. Their location in Summer Bay is known.
