Fans of Neighbours have a wild guess as to who the bride and groom are as the programme teases a wedding and a shocking twist for its return.
After 37 years, Neighbours ended last July, or so we thought.
Toadie Rebecchi (Ryan Moloney) and Melanie Pearson (Lucinda Cowden) were married in a feature-length finale that also saw many familiar figures return to Ramsay Street and several romances renew. The episode ended with an emotional monologue by Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne).
We’re barely months away from the show’s return after it was salvaged by Amazon, a year after the “final episode” aired. Several characters have been confirmed to return, while many new ones have also been introduced since filming resumed in April.
Family Varga-Murphy will relocate to Ramsay Street
We recently learned of a wedding!
In a recent advertisement, Network Ten—the Australian network that has aired Neighbours since 1986—previewed several upcoming programmes, including Hunted, The Traitors, and The Masked Singer.
The Australian soap opera received its own brief mention in the trailer as it prepares to return to Ten and Amazon Freeview in September. The two-second clip has lent greater credence to a contentious fan idea.
The tagline for the two brief snippets in the advertisement read, “The Ramsay Street twist!”
The first film included a still from the final episodes from last July featuring Jane Harris (Annie Jones) and Mike Young (Guy Pierce), while the second, more significant image featured a bride holding a bouquet of flowers.
That’s correct, when Neighbours is back, there will be another Erinsborough wedding!
The brief video appears to be stock film, so identifying the bride by looking at her hands is probably not possible.
Similar tactics were used by Neighbours in the run-up to the series’ finale, when a teaser hinted at a funeral and again used stock material to keep viewers from guessing who the deceased was—in this case, Hendrix Greyson (Ben Turland).
So, when we come back to Erinsborough in September, who will be getting married? There are many options available, albeit some have a lot more than others.
Could Elly and Chloe’s reunion as a couple mark the Neighbours wedding of 2023?
In the final episodes of the show, Chloe Brennan (April Rose Pengilly) and Elly Conway (Jodi Gordon) rekindled their romance before departing Erinsborough for a new beginning in Sydney. Both of them are expected to make brief cameos in the upcoming series, with Chloe perhaps sticking around for about six weeks.
Could Chloe and Elly be getting married soon, 4 1/2 years after Elly and Mark’s (Scott McGregor) wedding day was ruined by the discovery that Mark’s sister Chloe had slept with the bride-to-be?
In July of last year, Terese and Paul made amends.
There’s also Terese Willis (Rebekah Elmaloglou) and Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis), who spent a significant amount of the show’s last year going through a divorce before reconciling in the final episode.
Could their ‘wedding’ soon be a reaffirmation of their vows?
After 30 years apart, Mike and Jane were brought back together.
After spending three decades apart, Jane and Mike were reunited in the final episodes, and it has now been announced that Guy Pearce will play Mike once more in the upcoming season.
A Jane and Mike wedding, however, appears unlikely because it is anticipated that Guy will only make a few quick trips back to Ramsay Street.
But none of those three weddings could be characterised as a “Ramsay Street twist,” as many fans think they know who the newlyweds are, and it’s someone we never would have guessed.
Terese and Toadie?
That’s correct, despite the fact that Toadie married Melanie in the final episode, many think that Toadie and Terese will reunite on Neighbours when it returns in September.
The fact that the programme will advance in time when it returns has already been widely hinted at.
When Neighbours returns in September, it will have been off the air for just over 13 months, but it’s claimed that the time leap may be longer—possibly two years—and a lot can change in that time.
The wedding of Toadie and Melanie played a significant role in the finale.
Is two years long enough for Paul and Terese to have broken up once more and for Toadie and Mel to have divorced?
Fan art of the couple is already spreading across multiple Neighbours Facebook groups as more and more fans support the notion. What started as an unorthodox fan hypothesis on NeighboursFans has developed into an 11-page thread debating the advantages and disadvantages of a Toadie/Terese pairing.
Terese nearly ran into Toadie and Melanie in Rebecchi Law, where Melanie was Toadie’s assistant, at the very beginning of their relationship.
Despite having lived on the same street for nine years, they haven’t really interacted with each other since.
What proof is there that they are currently dating, then?
On April 17, when the cast resumed filming, 10 News First aired a footage in which Toadie and two unidentified actors—now thought to be a recast of Nell and Hugo Rebecchi—were seen moving belongings out of Number 30 and across the street.
There is no proof of where they ended up, but they were undoubtedly headed for Terese’s house, Number 22.
After 25 years, is Toadie about to say goodbye to No. 30?
Numerous NeighboursFans forum users who assert to have inside information have also said that the unusual pairing is real.
Last but not least, behind-the-scenes images posted to Instagram indicate that the Lassiters Penthouse will return, raising the possibility that Paul will still be residing there when the programme resumes.
Will Toadie and Terese actually come to pass? We won’t have to wait long to find out, as the return of the neighbours is just around two months away!
