On Home & Away, Ray Meagher claims he must first kill us in order to reveal the date of his eventual demise.
The Australian soap opera legend is still facing the music 36 years after debuting as the “flaming galah”-barking Alf Stewart in Summer Bay.
The television veteran just agreed to reprise his role as Alf for an additional five years, so there is no end in sight.
He’ll work on the set well into his 80s.
Meagher tells PerthNow about Alf’s future: “If I told you what happens next for Alf, I’d have to shoot you!”
Meagher, who is modest, claims that the ensemble as a whole deserves the accolade of being a Logies favourite.
“It all boils down to how well-liked the show is. It’s not about people,” he declared.
“Over the past 36 years, the show has been created by the entire cast and crew, not just one person, three people, or five people.
“Whoever chooses the nominees for these awards simply chose us this year, which is lucky for us. I’m honoured to have been nominated.
The trophy cupboard for the Channel 7 programme is getting full.
We’ve achieved a few victories along the way, thank God, Meagher added.
