Lynne McGranger has finally been nominated for a Logie Award, thirty years after she initially joined the cast of Home and Away.
Along with her co-stars Emily Symons and Ada Nicodemou, the 70-year-old actress is nominated for Most Popular Actress at this year’s award. In 2014, she broke the record for the longest-serving female cast member of an Australian television serial opera.
Before the 63rd TV Week Logie Awards on Sunday, July 30, Lynne told Yahoo Lifestyle that it is “truly extraordinary” to be honoured after thirty years in television.
She says, “I’ve thought about it before, and I think Em feels the same way that you feel like, oh well, okay, people don’t think to nominate us or anything like that because we don’t fit into their headspace.”
So it’s amazing, lovely, and I’m just having a great time on the journey.
Additionally, Lynne notes that all six of the nominees for Most Popular Actress this year—Celeste Barber, Emily, Ada, Kitty Flanagan, and Julia Zemiro—are over the age of 40.
“It’s a first for women of a certain age,” she says. “It’s just lovely not to be invisible, and I’m sure if those other three ladies were here, they would say exactly the same thing.”
“I really couldn’t believe it.”
Ada, who has already received six nominations, tells Yahoo Lifestyle that she didn’t anticipate receiving another honour this year.
“You don’t take it for granted, and I was very, very excited, I really didn’t expect it,” she adds. “And since I was unaware that [Emily and Lynne] were nominated as well, it was nice to learn that the three of us were selected. that’s wonderful to impart that to them.
First-time nominees Lynne and Emily both acknowledge that when they first heard the news, they originally didn’t think they had been nominated.
Lynne remembers, “I believed our publicist was making fun of me. “I asked my boyfriend, ‘Is this a dream?’ I went to him. Is this real life, or am I dreaming? He then asks, “Why?” I then said, “Because I just found out I’m up for a Silver Logie.” And he exclaims, “Oh, that’s fantastic!” I genuinely did not anticipate it or believe it.
“Same!” Adds Emily. I repeatedly asked, “Are you kidding? Are you serious? Are you serious? Was that a joke? Why? That would be a horrible joke, I don’t know. But I was quite grateful and happy.
Despite being nominated in the same category, the three claims they are not in it for the win and are content with whoever does.
“A win for any of us is a win for the show,” asserts Emily.
