Home and Away fans outraged by soap’s ridiculous plot line: ‘Who the hell writes this?’

Fans of Home and Away are furious over a new plot that involves one of Summer Bay’s most cherished characters.

The storyline follows Irene, the owner of a diner, as she falls for serial fraudster Bronte (Stefanie Caccamo), portrayed by veteran actress Lynne McGranger.

Bronte, a recent arrival to Summer Bay, has been pretending to be unwell and living with Irene.

Bronte’s deception includes her claim that she requires thousands of dollars for “special medical treatment” in Canada, for which Irene has pledged to help gather the necessary funds.

However, Bronte alleges she has been injured when it is revealed that Irene’s diner’s water supply has been tainted by a faulty pipe.

Unexpectedly, Irene, who is filled with remorse, advises Bronte to “sue the diner,” which the Summer Bay mainstay shares with Leah (Ada Nicodemou).

Facebook users have criticised the evolving plot line for being untrustworthy.

An furious spectator of Home and Away said, “Who the hell writes this stuff? The storylines are terrible.”

“It is completely illegal to allow Bronte to sue the diner,” they went on.

“Bronte thought it was a great idea, but she will need a full medical checkup, which will find her healthy.”

“The terrible thing is that real-life examples of Bronte exist!” An additional admirer updated the topic.

The same watcher noted that it is strange for Irene to “fall” for a con artist.

In the adored soap opera’s 2021 season, Irene assisted in exposing another con artist, Susie McAllister, portrayed by Bridie Carter.

“The plot is just showing what lengths people will try to go to in order to get free money, but it doesn’t always work out how you want it to,” said one fan in defence of the evolving plot.

But one quick-witted admirer did see a significant plot hole.

“Do they really think the insurance company won’t notice they’re the same as the claimant when Bronte puts her address on the form?” The sharp-eyed spectator enquired.

Recently, Lynne gained notoriety for her vicious jab at Robert Irwin following his Golden Logie nomination.

Twenty-year-old Robert is now among the youngest people to be nominated for the esteemed award, which honours the finest in the Australian television business.

Her support for her friend Larry, 59, who shared a humorous conversation he had with his pal on Instagram following his nomination, was evident in her reply.

He posted a screen grab of a text exchange in which his friend wished him luck on his nomination and announced that he would be “voting for Robert Irwin.”

‘I’m a blessed guy to have such supporting pals in this terrible Logies struggle,’ Larry joked in the post, eliciting a sympathetic response from Lynne over his fight for the Logie.

Since her 1993 début in the long-running serial opera Home and Away, Lynne has been a fan favorite.
